JAMMMZ is a one of a kind site designed for "musicians", or rather anyone who plays a musical instrument or is a music enthusiast. At JAMMMZ musicians can practice and improve their playing skills while receiving feedback from fellow site members.
We provide different levels of "JAMMMZ Challenges", you can easily find a challenge which suits your current capabilities. Once taking on a JAMMMZ Challenge other site members will give you feedback by voting and grading you according to how well they think you did.
In this way you can learn what others think of your playing, use their feedback to help you improve, win points to allow you access to new options and , most important of all, have loads of fun jamming and mingling with musicians from all over the globe.
So, we welcome you to JAMMMZ.
Stick around a while, play, listen, grade, have others listen to you. . .
We are all music lovers here, we know that music is what makes the world go round.
JAMMMZ challenges are a fun way to improve your instrument playing skills.
There are JAMMMZ challenges for any proficiency level, from absolute beginners to fully pledged maestros.
Taking on a JAMMMZ challenge allows you to try how well you can play a specific bit of music and then have others tell you what they think of your performance.
A JAMMMZ challenge provides you with an audio demonstration of how it should be played and a video of our pros explaining and showing you how they do it. We also provide you with a backing track over which you will record yourself playing.
Once you are satisfied with how well you did, all that is left is to upload your "solution" (an mp3 file recording of you performing the musical piece).
Your solution to a JAMMMZ challenge will be graded by fellow music enthusiasts, who may come from distant parts of the world. Through their feedback you learn what others think of your instrument playing ability.
The feedback your solution receives determines whether you pass or fail the challenge. Passing a challenge will award you JAMMMZ points which show others just how good you are. Also, accessing some challenges requires you pass previous ones.
JAMMMZ challenges may be based on well known materials, the "smoke on the water" riff for example, or be compiled of original music scores we have prepared for you.
Go on, take a JAMMMZ challenge, we dare ya. . .
A JAMMMZ package is a collection of JAMMMZ challenges which are of the same musical genre and are all suitable for a certain level of instrument playing skill.
Gaining access to some challenges in a JAMMMZ package may require you to first pass other challenges in the package.
You must subscribe to a JAMMMZ package before you can start taking on the challenges within it. Subscription to most JAMMMZ packages is absolutely FREE but some package must first be paid for.
A solution to a JAMMMZ challenge is a recording you submit (in mp3 file form) of yourself performing the musical piece along with the backing track we had provided.
For an explanation on how to record yourself playing check out "How do I record myself playing along with the backing track".
The mp3 file you submit as your solution to any JAMMMZ challenge must not exceed 5MB. JAMMMZ solutions larger than 5MB, as well as ones submitted in any form other than mp3 files, will be automatically rejected!
In your solution you may choose to add any short comments you choose to. Namely things you want others to be aware of, such as your instrument's setup or things you wish to get feedback on etc.
Once a JAMMMZ solution is submitted a voting process begins where fellow site members grade your performance according to how well they think you did. This voting process alone determines whether the solution submitted is good enough for you to pass the challenge.
Passing JAMMMZ challenges earns you JAMMMZ points. Collecting enough JAMMMZ points elevates your ranking.
Your JAMMMZ site ranking is a way to compare your playing abilities to those of other jammmies (fellow site members who take on JAMMMZ challenges). Earning higher rankings will, from time to time, win you cool prizes.
Feedback from higher ranking jammmies carries more weight. In this way a higher JAMMMZ site rank means you have more bearing on the progress of other jammmies.
Remember, your JAMMMZ ranking is displayed on your profile for all to see.
Earning JAMMMZ points and reaching higher rankings will show others just how awesome you are!
You earn one voting credit every time you vote for others (i.e. give feedback on solutions other site members submitted).
In order to submit solutions to JAMMMZ challenges you must have minimal voting credit.
The number of voting credits you need in order to submit a solution is the same as the minimal number of votes you will be getting (i.e. the number of jammmies who will give you feedback regarding what they think of your solution).
In this way we ensure that jammmies who submit solutions they wish to get feedback on will also vote and grade others. It is a method to ensure no solution will remain without a sufficient number of voters.
If you have run out of credit all you need to do is to vote and grade others, giving them your feedback on their performance.
Many of the features and a large part of the content in JAMMMZ are ABSOLUTELY FREE!
JAMMMZ is a platform dedicated to providing fun ways for music instrument players to improve their skills through interaction with fellow music enthusiasts.
This is why we try our best to offer as much free content as possible.
However, there are unavoidable expenses such as studio recording time, royalties to be paid, web related costs etc.
For this reason free access to some premium packages will only allow you to listen to the example tracks provided for each of the challenges within them.
Until you purchase such a premium package you will not be able to download backing tracks, access the video tutorials or submit solutions to the challenges in the package.
There are no such restrictions for use of the many FREE packages.
All you need to do in order to gain full access to free packages' content and features is subscribe to them.
Click on "Packages" (at the menu bar on the top of any of the site's pages).
Choose "All packages". You will get a detailed list of all available packages.
You can sort this list using various parameters such as instrument type, genre category, level of difficulty and price.
If the package you want is FREE (as many JAMMMZ packages are), all that is left is to click on "FREE" and acknowledge your subscription. You may then begin to take the JAMMMZ challenges within the package.
If the package you want is not free, click on "Purchase" and you will be guided through a simple purchasing process at the end of which you gain immediate access to the JAMMMZ challenges in this package.
Simply click on Vote (at the menu bar on the top of any of the site's pages).
You will also encounter the option to vote in various other places.
This is our way to remind and encourage jammmies to vote and grade others. Remember, giving and receiving feedback is a large part of what JAMMMZ is all about.
Choose the Solution you wish to grade and listen to it (you may want to compare it to the "audio example" provided).
Set the grading scales according to what you thought of the solution.
Add any comments you wish to bring to the attention of the Jammmie who's solution you are grading.
"My Feed" is where Jammmies interact socially with each other.
All posts by Jammmies you are a fan of, will appear on My feed.
Also on My feed you can catch up on what your favorite Jammmies are doing. Any action of theirs, such as submitting a solution, grading others, passing or failing of challenges, achieving a higher JAMMMZ rank, are displayed on My feed.
At various places you will be given the option to become a fan of a specific fellow Jammmie. For instance whenever you grade another Jammmie's solution or when looking through a Jammmie's profile.
Simply click on "Become a fan" and that's it.
A jammmie's permission is not required for you to become their fan.
Becoming a fellow jammmie's fan does not mean they automatically become your fan too!
You can stop being any jammmie's fan at any time.
To do this simply access My Jammmies (under "Jammmies" at the menu bar on the top of any of the site's pages). A list of all Jammmies you are a fan of will be displayed.
Just press Remove next to any of the Jammmies in this list and you will immediately stop being their fan.
Once you submit a solution to a JAMMMZ challenge it will be suggested to fellow Jammmies for voting. Solutions to different challenges may require a different minimal number of graders.
Every hour solutions which were graded enough times are closed to any further grading. Only once your solution is closed will your identity be made public. A summation of the grades and comments voters gave your solution will be neatly displayed in a "solution page" along with your JAMMMZ identity, a link to your profile and the example track we provided for this challenge.
You will receive an email notifying you that there are final voting results to your solution.
Access to a solution page is open to any web surfer (not only to those subscribed to JAMMMZ). For instance, a link to a solution page may appear on any facebook page for anyone to use.
Even if your solution is graded enough times very quickly you will still have to wait to the end of the hour for its grading process to be closed and its results made public. This is why a solution may accumulate more graders than the minimum required.
You can check out at what stage in the voting process a solution of yours is at by choosing My pending solution through My Pages (at the menu bar on the top of any of the site's pages).
Yes, if you fail a challenge you can submit a new solution for it, even right away. The number of times you can do this is unlimited.
Once you pass a challenge you can no longer submit solutions to it.
Both pass and fail solutions remain displayed in your profile.
